Chalex fine papers: Swatch book for speciality papers

Designer: Grafic Box

Brand: Chalex

Printing: For the hard cover, offset four-color CMYK printing was used on both sides of each individual set of the swatch book, with clear hot foil stamping on the spine. For the interior pages/sheets, we primarily used Pantone black, and in some cases, Pantone metallic silver and fluorescent Pantones. Additionally, hot foil stamping in various colors, silkscreen printing, and digital printing were employed, depending on the thickness and type of material. For the case, one-color Pantone black was used.

Finish: Matte UV varnish was applied on both sides of the hard cover. Punch holes were made for the nickel screws, along with crease lines for proper folding. Duplexing was used to create an 800g hard cover. Die cutting was applied to the external case.

Binding: To achieve the desired outcome of allowing each individual set to rotate smoothly, nickel screws were used. Each sheet in every set was meticulously arranged and assembled by hand. This manual process was necessary due to the varying types of materials and paper weights, which would be difficult for an automatic machine to handle effectively.

Papers: Acrodesign Bianco 400g was used for the hard cover by Fedrigoni, and over 800 different specialty and commodity papers were printed for the creation of the entire swatch book.
